WHY SUPPORT THE PROPOSAL?
The School Sisters of Notre Dame have the right to sell their property at 345 Belden Hill Rd, and any use of the property is going to mean some changes, since the property has largely been unused for some years.
Opponents state that the current SSND/Hines proposal to build a retirement community puts a number of items at stake for Wilton residents, including safety, infrastructure, environment, zoning precedent, and neighborhood fit.
We believe, however, that the SSND/Hines development is actually the best choice for Wilton on each of those points. See below for a list of reasons to support the proposal. We will continue to update this list and welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Any use of the property is going to mean some more traffic than now since the property is largely unused now. The question is what use will increase traffic the least when traffic is the worst. Belden Hill Road residents knows that traffic is a problem most during the morning rush hour, and in the late afternoon-evening. Click to read the whole article.

Driving along Belden Hill Road now, you see very little of the existing SSND buildings. Because the property slopes down from Belden Hill Road, you see the trees, chapel and smaller buildings but little of the large buildings. The SSND development takes advantage of this unique aspect of the site by placing the larger buildings mostly on the footprint of the existing buildings. Click to read the whole article.

Currently, the SSND property generates no property taxes to the town since it is owned by a religious organization, which will continue so long as the property goes undeveloped. If the SSND/Hines development is built, annual taxes generated by the property would exceed $2,000,000, subject to the caveats described in this article. Click to read the whole article.
