ABOUT THE PROJECT
The property at 345, 329, and 331 Belden Hill Rd is owned by the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), but has been vacant since 2021, and used very little for some years prior to that.
The SSND sisters have decided due to declining numbers and limited resources to divest of their property; the funds gained from the sale will be dedicated exclusively towards the SSND mission and the care of their sisters. (Read more in their words here.) The SSND sisters have partnered with Hines Acquisitions to redevelop the property into a new Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).
The retirement community is designed to provide a full continuum of care for seniors as they age, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The proposal features 280 residential units overall, with communal space and amenities, and an underground parking garage.
The proposed development was designed with an understanding of the importance of the residential nature of the community and the existing natural features on the site. For this reason, the development will sit largely on the same footprint as the buildings and structures there now, including the preservation of the 150-foot setback on Belden Hill Rd.
At this stage, the application has been submitted to the Town of Wilton’s Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z), and the vote by its nine members will determine if the proposal moves forward.
The proposal has been met with both support and opposition, the opposition led by the Wilton Neighbors Alliance. This group, Support the Sisters, seeks to provide a voice of support for the project, sharing why we believe the Hines development is actually the best choice for this property.
